In times of industrial overproduction and a global supply chain overload, we are used to having everything accessible at any time at cheap prices. Everyday, it is becoming clearer and clearer that our system is broken and we simply cannot continue like that, especially facing population growth and climate crisis.
Here, our daily lifestyle choices have a huge impact on both, our own and our children’s present and future. Instead of prioritising a fancy car or latest electronics, we should question the essentials: what do we feed ourselves and what does it do to us? Also, what’s the overall impact of our individual purchase?
Instead of making our planet and ourselves sick, we need to come back to our roots and consume consciously. But how do we do this in the times of scandals amassing despite the jungle of labels and certificates? That’s where Unfold comes into play.
At Unfold, we are determined to re-establish our connection to products we consume on a daily basis. We believe that knowledge and understanding are key to making a change for everyone involved. Hence, we are focused on making information easily accessible and on promoting our findings and insights to consumers and future generations.
We want to not only criticise the status quo, create an awareness and change our mindsets but also provide tangible alternatives: therefore, we are dedicated to promoting small and independent producers, who simply love what they do, in oder to provide tangible sustainable alternatives to mass consumption.
What we do is simple: we make the production of sustainable food transparent. With the support of our team on site and our own technology, we document the whole process from raw good to the final product with text, photo, video and data.
All that, is then made available through QR codes on the products, leading to the full storytelling our website. We make sure, the information is up to date, by constantly updating certificates, reports and specifications (e.g. from veterinarians, labs or labels).
Currently, we focus on products from Europe, especially in Germany and the Netherlands.
We are Unfold, a small project based in Amsterdam and Berlin. We went online in 2018, following a combination of multiple years of academic research and industry application in the field of supply chain innovation as well as our very personal interest and experience.
